Not Ready for the Pipe and Slippers yet..... A journey by Motorcycle through the Americas

Pre departure updates

Jame Shipping depot at LHR

Final preparations before I head off on Sunday 2nd June are now pretty much completed. The big task of getting the bike shipped came to a climax on Monday when I delivered it to James Shipping at Heathrow. By now it will be boxed up along with various other bits of kit like tent, slepping bag, spares and tools etc. It should leave the UK early the week beginning 27th May and arrive in Anchorage via Chicago by the end of the week. I'll be flying out on Sunday 2nd June and will collect it from the cargo storage facility and clear cusoms with it on Tuesday 4th June. There's a few bits of paper involved in all this ( See below!)

Apart from the obvious like my passport and the V5 Registration document, there's also two import documents, a USA Enviromental Protection Agency waiver, International Driving Licence, insurance for USA and Canada, my vaccination records and Yellow Fever clearance, etc etc......

The Richard Pearce Road Survival Kit

One other major additions to what I'll be taking is a comprehensive first aid kit. This has been very kindly put together by Richard Pearce of  Gainsborugh Fitness Richard's one of the reasons I'm able to do this trip in the first place - several years ago when my leg came out of plaster after an achilles heel rupture, it was he that spotted the DVT that had developed. Without his speedy intervention I would almost certainly have been a goner!

He's a top bloke, very experienced biker and has spent an age putting this kit together especially for me. Im now pretty confident that apart from taking out my own appendix, I'm pretty much covered for all things medical.

So, a week of final thinking and checking then off we go.......
